Kitchen Tour 2011

October 20, 2011

Lois Schneider Realtor, along with Bouras Properties, is thrilled to sponsor The Overlook Auxiliary Kitchen Tour on Thursday, October 20th. If you believe that kitchens are truly the heart of the home, then this is your chance to visit the heart of some of the most beautiful homes in Summit — and support an important cause at the same time. Proceeds of this event will benefit Overian Cancer Research.

Every year, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer Of those women, 15,000 will not survive. However, if detected early, the five-year survival rate is greater than 90%. That is why it is so important to develop a method to screen for tumors, and identify them early. This is a key component to improving survival rates, and this is why we are proud to support such a important organization and such an important cause.

Tickets can be pre-purchased for $40 at Lois Schneider Realtor, at the gift shop at Overlook Hospital, or by visiting www.ohaux.org. Tickets will also be available the day of the tour for $45. The seven state-of-the-art kitchens will be open from 10 am – 3 pm.

Walking for a Cure

September 20, 2010

On Sunday, September 12th, friends and coworkers from Lois Schneider Realtor gathered in Loantaka Brook Park to participate in the Kaleidoscope of Hope Walkathon. “Team LSR” raised over $4,000 to support ovarian cancer research and raise awareness of the symptoms of this disease.  A big thank you to all who braved the elements and walked in the rain, and to all who pledged a donation. For more information on the Kaliedoscope of Hope Foundation, please visit www.kohnj.org/index.html.

Keeping Your Cool When The Weather Is Hot

July 21, 2010

It’s so hot, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk…or so it seems. With record-breaking hot and humid weather plaguing the state of New Jersey day after day this summer, it’s hard to keep your cool. Tempers flare as temperatures soar, and to keep the fine folks in the Garden State  from getting cranky, we’ve cranked out a few ideas to help you beat the heat!

1. Speaking of crank…how about some hand-cranked, homemade ice cream! If you can muster the energy to turn the crank, you can make a delicious frozen treat for yourself and your loved ones. Not enough energy to make your own? Then head to Applegate Farm Homemade Ice Cream at 14 Beechwood Road in Summit, NJ, for the next best thing. Plus, weekdays between 11 am and 1 pm, they offer a buy one, get one free small cone!

2. Still interested in making your own ice cream, but don’t have an ice cream maker? Maybe you should head to the wonderfully air-conditioned Short Hills Mall and pick one up! Located at 1200 Morris Turnpike in Short Hills, NJ, this preeminent shopping destination is home to five department store anchors, and 160 specialty stores and restaurants. One could surely “while away the hours” with some retail therapy.

3. While many of us could “while away the hours” at the Short Hills Mall, others might want to “follow the yellow brick road” to Memorial Park in Maplewood, NJ,  to see a free, outdoor screening of “The Wizard of Oz.”  Located across from the train station, Memorial Park is a great place to spread a picnic blanket, grab a cool beverage, and enjoy this classic movie. Showtime is Friday, July 23, at 8 pm, just as the sun begins to set and the air gets a bit cooler.  Need more air conditioning than the setting sun provides? Go to www.fandango.com and plug in your zip code to get a complete list of  current movie titles and times for our local movie theatres.

4. If “The Wizard of Oz” leaves you dreaming of ruby slippers, then click your heels and think…”there’s no place like….the Morris Museum!” Through August 29th, the Morris Museum will showcase an exhibition featuring more than 250 pairs of shoes. According to their website, “The Shoe Must Go On! explores centuries of shoe design, and present shoes from many different “walks” of life. The exhibition explores more than fifteen themes and features footwear of distinguished individuals who share a special connection to the state of New Jersey, including Governor Chris Christie and Thomas Edison, among others.” For more information on current and future exhibits, visit www.morrismuseum.org.

5. Feet sore from trying on 250 pairs of shoes? Time to kick them off, put your feet up and take it easy. During these dog days of summer, the Red Cross recommends you slow down; drink plenty of  water; eat small meals and eat often; wear light-colored, loose-fitting, lightweight clothing; and take frequent breaks when you are working outside. Extreme heat can be dangerous, so please never leave pets or children alone in vehicles; use a buddy system when working in excessive heat; and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may not have air conditioning or who spend much of their time alone.

Still sitting in front of your oscillating  fan thinking things are too hot to handle? Then maybe it’s time to visit Lois Schneider Realtor’s  comfortable, air-conditioned office at 431 Springfield Avenue in Summit, NJ, and let one of our expert Sales Associates point you in the direction of your very own dream home, complete with multi-zone central air conditioning….and maybe a pool!

How do you plan to beat the heat?  We’d love to hear your comments!

Lois Schneider Realtor Hits the Bar!

July 14, 2010

No, we don’t mean gathering at Roots Steakhouse for a martini after a long day of real estate transactions. Instead, the ladies from LSR were invited to a sample session at The Bar Method of Summit, located on the second floor of 86 Summit Avenue.

Owners, Angie Comiteau and Jen Hedrick were excited to unveil their expanded space, which now includes a second studio. And as a special thank you to Cynthia Baker, a Lois Schneider Realtor Sales Associate, who is responsible for Angie and Jen meeting and eventually becoming business partners, a sample class was offered to the office. Regular clients, including Debbie Lupton and Maren Dinsmore, were thrilled to share their preferred workout method with first-timers like Susan Hunter, Vice President/Director of Sales and Marketing at Lois Schneider Realtor. Hunter was very impressed with the experience. “The studio on Summit Avenue is beautiful and pristine. Our instructors, Jen and Angie, challenged us to dig deep and get the most out of the hour we spent with them,” she said, “We left having had a great workout – and a lot of fun!”

Please contact  The Bar Method of Summit at 908.522.1550 or summit@barmethod.com for detailed information about classes, schedules, prices and availability.

And now…about that drink at Roots….
